Embroidered Emblems and Badges: Additional Information

1. MINIMUM LETTERING SIZE
In order for the letters to be eligible and to be in satin stitches, the size of letters should be at least 3/16” high on twill background, or 1/4” high on heavier fabric background or stitched background.

2. STANDARD LETTERING STYLE
We use regular block font as our standard lettering style. See below for example. If you need a particular font for your emblems, please submit an artwork with the correct lettering font.

3. STITCHING
RUNNING STITCHES: A series of single stitches forming a line, also know as walking stitches.
SATIN STITCHES: A series of single-direction stitches in a zigzag action forming a column, also know as column stitches.

4. BORDER TREATMENT
Merrow border is a 1/8” border that over-locks the edge of the emblem to prevent it from fraying. Only emblems with regular shapes or slightly irregular shapes with smooth angles can be merrowed.

Die-cut or hand-cut emblems don’t have an over-locking border. The background material shows on the edges no matter if there is a stitched border or not. The shapes of these emblems can be regular or slightly irregular.

Heat-cut is the best choice for emblems of irregular shapes. The fabric of the edge is completely trimmed off so that it will never fray. Heat-cut emblems with heat seal backing are great alternative for direct embroidery.

5. INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING EMBLEMS WITH HEAT SEAL BACKING
1) Preheat the machine to 325° F.
2) Place the patch on the desired position, and cover it with a light-weighted cloth.
3) Then, iron with firm pressure for 10 to 15 seconds.
4) Preferably, heat from both topside and underside of the garment.
5) After it is cooled down, check the adhesion.

Note: Fabrics vary. You need to perform a preliminary test first. Emblems are only to be applied to the fabrics that can withstand temperature 325 ° F. Satin, nylon, or waterproof fabric might not be suitable to apply to.

6. INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION EMBROIDERY EMBLEMS with STUDSTONES
1) Set heat-press machine to 325°F with medium to maximum pressure.
2) Place the emblem on the desired location; if your garment is heat sensitive you may need to cover it with a lightweight, heat-resistant cloth.
3) Use heat-press machine to iron with firm pressure for 30~35 second (adjust time if needed.)
4) Allow cooling.

Note: Fabrics vary. Therefore you will need to perform a preliminary test on other garment first. Emblems are only to be applied to fabrics that can withstand up to 350°F. Materials like satin, nylon, or waterproof fabric might not be suitable for heat seal backing.

7. SPECIAL COLORS
All orders requesting special fabric color or thread colors must be specially quoted. Please allow extra time for color matching. These special colors might not be available for repeat orders since they are not our stocked-colors, unless a contract was signed for us to stock the material for you.

8. WASHING INSTRUCTION
Our standard embroidered emblems are colorfast under cold water with non-bleaching detergent. A preliminary test is recommended if any order washing/cleaning methods are used. If the emblems will be washed under industrial laundry, please specify that on your order or ask us for polyester threads.
